Turn machine upside down and remove the hex screw in the middle of the metal shower screen with the tool supplied by breville. Once the screw is out the metal shower screen can be removed which will allow you to access the plastic inner shower screen and the group head seal. Both of these can be easily removed by hand or with a small screwdriver by prying them out of the group head.

No problem - just remove the water tank and empty it, remove the drip tray, put the machine on its back and remove the allen screw. The screen and plastic disc (which was cracked) are then simple to remove and replace. Same with the seal which was ok but I thought it was best to replace it anyway. Then give it all a good clean and re-assemble. Enjoy your coffee

| Tools Required: |
One allen key for the screw in the shower screen. Perhaps a small screwdriver to prise the old seal off.

Simple job to fix - using an allen key remove the group head shower screen then the plastic inner should either fall down or just need a few little wiggles. For me I noticed that the portafilter was getting hard to remove (the basket would remain) turned out the plastic inner had split. Just pop the new one in and re-attach the shower screen and you are good to go.

Remove the screws (x2) located on the underside of next to the grinder outlet and the group head - this has been the worst bit. Remove the top be careful of the earth lead. Located the leaking hose and remove the clips (x2), remove hose, remove o-rings and install new o-rings, install hose - push down on one end and insert clip - do the same on other end, install screws in reverse of removal good to go.

Installation of the solenoid is well covered by a couple of youtube videos and is pretty straightforward. Youll need a phillips head screwdriver and a t15 torx screwdriver plus a small wire cutter or blade to cut a cable tie. You also need a new cable tie to replace the one youll have cut. Be careful when unscrewing the solenoid because the four screws that hold it are partly obstructed by the solenoid body so the screwdriver cannot properly engage the screw head (it will be at a slight angle). It would be easy to burr the screw head if you dont engage the driver properly. New gaskets are supplied with the solenoid so dont need to be ordered separately. I couldnt believe how quiet my machine now is clearly the original solenoid was faulty from the start but not having anything to compare it to I didnt realise this until after a couple of years it became obviously wrong. The machine now is a pleasure to use.

After viewing youtube videos not too difficult. 1. Undo four screws holding top cover 2 torx screws at top rear then 2 phillips under front one either side of the group head. 2. Remove the off-on control on top side. Cover can be difficult to just pull off first time. Once off this exposes three phillips screws to removed handle then poke another phillips screwdriver down hole and undo. Rest of the control unit then pulls off. 3. Removing the ball valve unit. First remove the clips holding the hoses at either end using long nose pliers. Be very careful not to drop the clips into the inner workings. Undo two phillips screws on bracket holding the unit in place. Then the unit just pulls out. Reverse the procedure with replacement unit.

This was a relatively easy fix. After removing top of machine (2 star screws on rear and 2 philips screws under front near group head) and removing the steam wand control handle (pull off handle cover and remove 4 screws). It was a simple removal of two screws from bracket holding in ball valve and removal of two water pipes (held in by r-clips). Insert new ball valve - note you need to re-use the o-ring in the top hose attachment. Reassemble and then machine was working as normal once more. Note I also had to tighten the bracket holding the ball valve to the machine body since this had become wobbly. This is done by simply bending the metal tabs holding it in place slightly until tight.

Needle nose pliers to remove the old part. Also needed a flat head screwdriver to pry out the housing as the old part was also glued in place. New part is just pushed in place with a press fit.

Take off the top of the machine - two screws in the back two beside the group head, unscrew the plastic shield then unscrew the triac board. Unplug the multi-strand cable from the triac board then cut the 4 coloured power cables. Strip the 4 coloured wires from the new board then join crimp and insulate them with the matching coloured wires from the machine. Plug the multi-strand cable into the new board. Apply a small amount of thermal paste to the three sections of the heatsink and screw the triac board back in to the top of the machine. Reinstall the plastic shield place the top back on the machine and test. If everything works screw the top of the machine back in place.

Replacing the triac pcb assembly fixed my temperature problem. I also replaced 23 o rings (5 of which were leaking water or steam which was the root cause of the problem).
Info - I found the forums at coffee snobs invaluable
