I recommend not laying machine on its back. Did this to try get leverage to undo screw but after putting new seal in reassembling standing machine upright, was concerned may have damaged as would not build sufficient pressure to operate. Took a 3 minutes of running it to get it operating again. Suspect may have just emptied the pipes or introduced air blockage. Under all circumstances recommend removal of water tank before doing this. And always recommend disconnecting from mains power even though was nowhere near electrical circuits for replacement of this part.

Collar channels were worn causing the handle to tip slightly under full pressure causing a big leak and no coffee - Not for the faint hearted - full disassembly of the machine required - but importantly no water pipes need to be loosened disconnected.
|
| Tools Required: |
Good quality torx driver - Screws in the collar are very tight - and 3 sheared off on removal which is why I bought a new set.

Remove top cover including disconnect control panel wiring harness. then dismantle and remove the thermo-block assembly including disconnection of multiple water steam pipe compression joints and a couple of wiring connections. Carefully note orientation of all pipes. Care needed with thermo-block temperature sensors to avoid spreading heat sink compound everywhere. Collar and shower head simply detach from thermo-block note orientation before removing.

The brew head seal is very easy to fit. Make sure that you do not damage the top of the Phillips head screw when removing it. After removing the filter screen the seal should come out easily.Replace the new seal the same way that the old seal came out. Job done in 2 minutes.

My shower collar was fractured due to 5 years of use. Changing the shower head is a complete strip of the machine - everything has to come out for this repair. The case is very difficult to take apart as some of the screws are hidden took a few hours and you must take most of the copper fittings off to get the thermo block out to get to the shower collar. A skilled hand is required - if you are not that technical do not try this. I also changed the steam pump - this is not too hard to do but take care of the silicon tube as it is very brittle = I found putting masking tape over my pliers ends stopped the tube being clamp cut and gave me plenty of pressure to get the stubborn pipe on. Finally my machines back up and running.

I bought the parts for a 6900 thinking the screw size was the same. I was wrong.
The 6900 and 6910 collars have different size screws and the thermoblocks also have different hole sizes. Had to drill out the thermoblock to 5mm but now it is much more secure than the previous smaller 4mm screws that are normally fitted to the 6900.
Will remain to be seen whether the modified thermoblock is up to the repeated stress of use....

If your sunbeam em6910 is leaking from the group seal then the group collar is worn and needs replacing. If you havent got any torx screwdrivers go and get some now. Ready open the back door and remove it by unscrewing the single large flat head screw. Remove water tank drip tray tip machine upside down onto a soft surface and undo the 4 long screws around the edge of the group holding the lid on and the two short ones holding the side knob trims on. You need not remove the group shower screen but its a good chance to clean it all out. Pull the side knobs off with a sharp tug. Look at the the bit underneath closely even take photos. Later youll be wondering how the heck it goes back together. Consider match marking the position. Remove a single screw inside them and slide off the splined shaft. There is two small headlong thread torx screws holding the lid on from the back access as viewed from the rear. If you cant see one you might have to remove a side panel by removing two small screws underneath the machine. Work the lid off carefully and unplug the cables going to the control panel. By now you can see the espreso thermoblock. You may have to remove the steam and hot water wands watch out for a spring. You will either unscrew the wand from its base or the entire base - you cant tell or control which but it doesnt really matter. There are plates that support the wand plumbing and other bits - they have short screws and longer screws. The long screws are on outside edges and also hold on a plastic ring for the side knobs. Dont get them mixed up. Removing the thermoblock involves undoing all the connected wires and pipes. Some you cant disconnect until you have it partly out the blue wire.Write the wire colours on the thermoblock next to the spade terminals. When you undo any thermostat or thermal fuse the red wire you will see thermal conductivity cream. See tools list. Use a 10mm amd 12mm open end spanner to undo copper pipe fittings. Some people are able to access the group collar by leavign the pipes connected and just bending them by tilting the thermoblock upwards. I didnt do that. There are large torx screws holding the thermoblock to the group collar and some small screws holding the group collar down before lifting the group collar out mark the front with a texta so you can put the new one in the correct way there is only one way it can go in but it saves time. Then put it all back together in reverse order.
|
| Tools Required: |
Torx screwdrivers small and medium phillips screwdrivers, large flat screwdriver 10 12mm, open end spanners, shifting spanner or appropriate open end spanner for wands thermal conductivity cream white for thermostat sensors usually used between computer processors and their heatsinks - get from jaycar or the like. In case you accidentally wipe off all the existing stuff. You will get it all over your fingers.

Its a quite a job but if you are handy you wont have any problems. I needed to drill out the old screws for the collar so a good drill and bits are important as well as a torx bit set. Remember to order a new screw set too. Remove top cover - screws are a bit hidden and you need to take off the switches for steam and hot water before. You should also take care because you need to disconnect the control panel. You can keep all the pipes attached and wiggle the old collar out underneath. Note the position before removing and slide the new one in. Ensure the contact surfaces are clean and mate well tighten the thermoblock to the collar and mount into chasis again. I took pics as I went for assembly reminders just to be sure. Replace all covers and you should be good to go.

Remove screen, prise old filter out. Clean whole assembly thoroughly. New filter goes in screen and screw holds it all together. Make coffee. Took me a while but I also spent a lot of time cleaning coffee crap off the screen and did a descale while it was apart. Coffee tastes much cleaner and fresher now.

Remove back door of coffee machine by unscrewing large screw that hinges door the pull down door to release from dowel fitting at top. When removing back remember to remove the two t20 torx headed screws hidden in each top corner at back. Its also necessary to remove the two short phillips head screws underneath the coffee machine on right hand side when viewed from back. Remove the four phillips head self tappers holding the plastic back remove. Remove right hand side (when viewed from back) by lifting out from bottom pulling down to release side from the dowel fittings at top. When removing top remember to lift carefully from back and then carefully disconnect to two electrical plugs from the circuit board under the buttons at the front. The spanners are required to remove the copper pipe elbow connecting the top of the thermoblock to the steam tap. Remove all the small screws from top of thermoblock disconnect both copper pipes at the thermoblock brass elbows to allow each tap with both the steam water pipes. Remove both pipes through the hole above the steam water pipes. You now have access to both the thermoblock collar assembly. Before lifting the thermoblock out disconnect the earth wires from top and also unplug the two wires (one blue the other red) from the side at back of thermoblock. Use t25 torx screwdriver to remove the five torx head screws around the side of the thermoblock unit lift out. The collar assembly is held in place by four phillips head screws. Remove these and lift out collar. Replacement of new collar thermoblock is reverse of disassembly. Take time and dont rush or it could end in tears

Remove group head and water canister. Power off. Tip espresso machine on its back for easier access. Remove philips head screw (top centre in head) and gently prise out metal plate. The plate will be firmly adhered to the seal from heat and pressure. Note which way seal is installed then remove. Wipe exposed area with clean damp cloth then reassemble using new seal. Install group head and note that to tighten requires less movement to the lock position as seal is new. This is normal.

The part didnt work. There is another o ring inside the seal which was degraded and this was not part of the seal kit. This makes the seal sit further into the machine which makes it leak just as much if not more than the old seal. I devised a dodgy repair that works. I took the old seal and carved off a sliver of rubber with a stanley knife so I had a correct diameter o ring to place inside the new seal. Very disappointed that the spare was effectively not the right size due to the missing o ring from the original machine.
|
| Tools Required: |
I needed a stanley knife to cut the old seal to make an o ring in order to make up for the fact that the seal did not come with the underlying o ring.

The top of the steam pump body has a threaded connector with a seat for the seal. This seat lip is too weak and splits causing water to get into the pumps windings shorting it out. It would help if they sealed the pump housing to stop any water getting in.

My symptom was delay in the steam pump starting gradually increasing over time. The replacement happily gave me a 100 fix.
I did not replace the wiring or the rubber brackets but found the copper brass connection at the top of the pump to be leaking slightly so cleaned it in a weak solution of C.L.R. to remove the scale build up in it.
Be extremely careful this a 240 volt part as are the other pumps and wires.
Be careful to ensure wires connections are left were they cant bind and rub.
|
| Tools Required: |
Screwdriver, replacement miniature cable ties for silicone rubber pipes, drill and rivet gun if you choose to replace the rubber mounting brackets. This would make the job hard as there is not good space to work. Small spanner to remove brass junctions.

Steam pump replacement reasonably straightforward - replaced pressure gauge at same time as was not working. Suspected blocked pressure relief valve but changed out while machine was apart. Group collar replacement requires complete disassembly as most of the 5 retaining bolts will shear at the head not allow enough movement to lift clear thermoblock clear. If this is the case pipework will have to be disconnected at the most accessable point. Be aware brass elbow fittings become brittle under heat particularly at the top of the stem thermochamber. I suspect they may be british parallel pipe thread or similar so may be tricky to find. I reassembled collar using dry graphite powder on threads to try and avoid shearing bolts come the next collar change (seems to be around 4 years or so). Pcb was purchased in case my suspicion about the pump was wrong so now have a spare.

Steam pump is a little difficult to replace, difficult access - the connecting hoses hard to get off. One plastic hose had to be replaced as well because it split. It turned out that my fault was in fact a blocked thermoblock not a defective steam pump. I dont know if you can diagnose this cause without resorting to trial test by elimination. At least I know the steam pump is now brand new so should last a few years from now.
|
| Tools Required: |
The steam pump replacement required a standard toolset. The blocked thermoblock is quite tricky to clear. In the end I used a combination of descaling fluid a thin wire a car tyre air compressor. I messed around with it until finally the thin internal tube in the thermoblock became unblocked. A miracle really.

Maintain the original rubber mounting, just use a sharp knife to cut to the old pump, in one slit cut and remove the cable ties at the pump, be sure to replace these with the same size and pull tight, loosen the top brass connection to the pump and clean this brass nipple ready for the new pump. Remove the new pump from its rubber mount and replace in the same manner you removed the old pump, connect the wiring ,I just cut the active (red) and placed it in a water proof connector the black goes to the main board replace covers before powering the unit and enjoy your coffee again.

| Tools Required: |
Phillips screwdriver, long nose pliers, wire cutter, security screw piece, once you have this side cover screw out and replace it with a std screw, water proof connector for active connection

|
| Tools Required: |
Along with a couple of phillips head screwdrivers youll need torx t20 and t25 for a some of the screws. And some 10mm 12mm spanners to remove some of the piping if youre not comfortable in bending the copper pipes.

Tip for steam pump. Ensure hoses do not kink when fitting as the repair agent did under warranty.
Having the correct Torx screw driver to remove the screw holding the side onto the machine.
|
| Tools Required: |
Flat and phillips screw drivers, Torx screw driver multi head drivers are very hard to use as the socket that the head fits into is too big in diameter to fit in side cutters and long nose pliers.

The rubber pump supports are riveted in position. The top support needs to be removed and so the rivets need to be drilled out and new rivets inserted (this is awkward) when the new pump is installed. The lower support can be re-used.
|
| Tools Required: |
A torx (t20) driver is required to remove the ss side cover on the coffee machine. Cordless drill to remove rivets, rivet gun to reattach top pump support. Side-cutters to remove cable ties around water hoses.

Follow instructions with photos on coffesnobs website. Trick 1 is to put both filters into the seal before fitting back into the brew head. Trick 2 is to use cardboard spacers behind the seal if the threads on your brew head collar or your group handle are worn.

| Tools Required: |
Refer to coffesnobs instruction sheet.

Always good to renew this part when needed (ie when the group handle is locking more to the right when group handle is undoing slightly during shot, occasional steam escaping, slight leaking etc), a new group seal improves ease of use, seals properly for long high-pressure shots etc. It will also help with prolonging the lifespan of the collar.
|
| Tools Required: |
Philips head screwdriver for shower screen, small flat screwdriver or similar for seal removal. Clean machine using the clean cycle with a tablet before fitting the new seal.
